OUR MISSION
We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
SHARE THE POWER OF A WISH
When you help grant wishes, you may find your own life is enriched as the families whose lives are changed forever with precious memories that last a lifetime. While not a cure, the wish experience provides a powerful respite that may change the course of the child's illness. Thank you for your support to further this important work with the children of New Mexico.
OUR HISTORY
On
April 29, 1980, a 7-year-old boy from Phoenix, Arizona, named
Chris Greicius realized his lifelong wish to become a state
trooper. Many of those responsible for fulfilling Chris' wish
wanted to do the same for other children with life-threatening
medical conditions. This led to the founding of the Make-A-Wish
Foundation® of America. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® is
now the largest wish-granting organization in the world with 74
chapters in the United States and its territories, and 28
international affiliates spanning five continents.
The
New Mexico Chapter
was founded in 1986 and granted its first wish in January 1987,
to Donovan who wanted a bicycle.
Our Chapter is governed
by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of New Mexico
residents from all walks of life. Each board member assists in
all phases of the Foundation's work. Four full-time staff --
including our President/CEO, Volunteer/Operations Manager, Wish
Manager, and Office Manager -- who work with our extremely
dedicated family of volunteers, throughout the state, to make
MAWFNM successful!
